Chogolisa Peak is often referred to as K12. Ghogolisa Peak is a high peak situated close to the Baltoro Glacier in Pakistan's Karakoram Range. The higher peak Chogolisa I height is 7,665 meters (25,148 feet) but the lower peak Chogolisa II has an elevation of 7,654 meters (25,098 feet). Chogolisa was first climbed in 1975 by an Italian expedition led by Reinhold Messner which included his brother Gunther Messner who unfortunately died on the descent. After that, there have been several successful ascents of the peak by different expeditions although it is still considered a challenging and technically difficult climb. Climbers typically face bad weather conditions, at high elevations, and the risk of avalanches due to its steep and icy slopes. The peak continues to attract experienced mountaineers from across the world despite the challenges they face because of its amazing scenery and the feeling of adventure that comes with climbing such a difficult peak.
