Gasherbrum V is a mountain in the Karakoram range, located on the border between Pakistan and China. It has a height of 7,147 meters (23,448 feet) and is part of the Gasherbrum massif, which includes six peaks above 7,000 meters. Gasherbrum V was first climbed by a Japanese expedition in 1994 which is led by Yoshio Ogata. On July 16, 1994, the team climbed the south face of the mountain via a new route and reached the summit. The climber climb was praised for its technical difficulty with the team facing steep rock faces and challenging ice conditions. Since that first attempt, there have been a few other successful climbs of Gasherbrum V but it remains a relatively less-known peak in the region. The mountain is not as famous among climbers as its adjacent peaks like Gasherbrum IV and Gasherbrum II, partly due to its faraway location and the challenging approach to the base camp.
