A mountain in the Karakoram range called Masherbrum sometimes referred to as K1, is situated on the boundary between Pakistan and China. It stands at a height of 7,821 meters (25,659 ft), making it the 22nd tallest summit in the world. Masherbrum was first climbed in 1960 by a team of Americans and Pakistanis led by Nick Clinch. On July 6, 1960, the team ascended the mountain's southeast ridge and arrived at the top. The team had to deal with tough ice and rock barriers throughout the climb, which was noted for its technical complexity. Masherbrum is one of the most picturesque peaks in the Karakoram range and is famous for its distinctive pyramidal shape. With a lengthy approach to the base camp, the peak is in fact far out of the way and difficult to reach. With multiple ascent routes, including the classic southeast ridge route, Masherbrum is still a favorite mountain for skilled climbers and mountaineers.
